Batman story?

Okay, I realize this is a long shot, but I was reading Joe R. Lansdale's book God of the Razor last night/yesterday morning at about this time, and in the introduction he said that his favorite story based on The Nightrunners was a Batman story for an anthology, but D.C. wouldn't let him print it.

Does anyone know what this story is.. and, more to the point, which book it's in, so I can begin my obsessive search for it?
