We (my family) have been so lucky..
Sep. 12th, 2001 10:35 pmMy uncle in Manhattan is all right. My cousin who's a cop there is alive. My uncle who lives in Maryland is all right. The rest of my family is in Michigan or around here. We lucked out so much that I almost feel guilty.. my heart goes out to those who did not.
I'm sure my stepmother is suffering very deeply. She has this unwavering belief in our military.. our military that was fucking useless due to the nature of these attacks. I don't feel sorry for her.. the woman's always lived in her own little dream world. Still, I doubt there are many Americans who aren't shaken up at the way things happened. As a country, we have been spoiled. Nothing like this has ever happened to us; we've always managed to bring our conflict elsewhere.
My father brought up a chilling idea: what if instead, they'd gone after nuclear power plants? There's one so close to us that if it was hit I would definitely be dead. But I think that form of attack would not make anyone very popular. Fear would make everyone hunt you down.
